Theta brainwaves are slow waves, that commonly runs at a frequency of 4-7 cycles per second. It is usually associated with deep relaxation, meditation, intuitive and higher consciousness and is used in hypnosis and during Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep. That’s why people would meditate for hours and hours just to achieve this state in order to reach the absolute perfect calm.

1) Improves mood and emotions

When our brain enters theta state, euphoria (state of intense happiness and excitement) would be promoted as our body produces more ‘happy hormone’ endorphin. At the same time, less cortisol, the stress hormone, are released. This helps ease the symptoms of anxiety and stress. This effect is rather long - lasting for people prone to anxiety states.

2) Pain relief

Apart from improving our moods, the biggest benefit of a deep state of rest and relaxation is pain relief. You may have noticed that during sleep, pain vanishes and returns when you wake up. If you bring your brain waves to a Theta state, you will no longer feel pain. Theta state helps relieve pain by promoting the production of endorphin.
